Hunslet RLFC are delighted to announce that back-row forward Josh Tonks has today penned a new two-year contract with the club, meaning the former Keighley Cougars captain will remain at the South Leeds Stadium until the end of the 2020 season.

Josh 26,  joined the Parksiders from cash strapped Keighley Cougars back in July and has gone on to make a big impact at the club.

He has put in some solid performances in the famous myrtle, flame and white jersey, most notably against his former club Keighley Cougars in an impressive away win and away to West Wales where he helped himself to four tries.

Tonka has an impressive record so far making a total of 7 appearances and scoring 5 tries.

Head Coach Gary Thornton was delighted to retain Josh “I’m really pleased we have been able to retain a player of Josh’s quality.

“He has shown his proven value to the group since he joined us from Keighley, and has made huge impact in the short time he has been here.

“He is one of the top back-rowers in the division and yet again we have had to beat off opposition from other clubs to keep him, and I am delighted he has decided to commit to us.

“I think it’s a measure of how far we have come this year that other clubs are trying to tempt our players away, but it also shows we are developing well ourselves, and they are happy to stay and progress us further.

“We need to keep building and improving and signing players of Josh’s quality will help us achieve that.

“With Straff and Josh now signed up, we have two of the best back-rowers in the competition, which will give us some real attacking threat out wide.”

Tonka was delighted to be extending his stay at the South Leeds Stadium “I’m delighted to have signed for another two years.

“I’ve enjoyed my time here so far at the club and it was an easy decision to extend my stay.

“I’m getting used to things here now and there’s a lot more still to come from me and I’m looking forward to helping the club gain promotion in the near future and getting the club back into the Championship.”
