Hunslet RLFC can today confirm that Jon Luke Kirby has rejoined the club from Huddersfield Giants on a month’s loan.

Kirby enjoyed an earlier spell on loan before his parent club recalled him to subsequently join Halifax also on loan.

Head Coach Gary Thornton said “I’m delighted Jon Luke is returning. He was a very popular member of our group, and added value to the team.

“He has been away playing Championship rugby with Halifax, which will have given him great experience playing at the higher level.

“He will give us additional cover and add competition for places in the front row, while Aiden Hema continues his recovery from his ankle injury.”

Meanwhile half back Joe Sanderson has joined Coventry Bears on a similar loan period. Sanderson was a main stay of the side last year but has struggled to earn a regular place in the side this season.

Thornton added “Joe needs to play so he can get some confidence back.

“Because of the way our fixtures fall, he will only miss 2 games in July, so it seemed an ideal time to give him the opportunity to go to Coventry and get some valuable game time under his belt.

“Joe is a valuable member of our squad, and still developing as a halfback at this level.

“I’m sure he will accept this as a challenge, react positively, and come back ready to push for a first team place with us for the back end of the season.”
