THE Winter issue of South of the River – the magazine devoted to Hunslet RLFC and the local amateur and schools scene – is now out on the shelves. In this unique edition it also incorporates a preview to the Harry Jepson Memorial Trophy and is the match day programme for that day.

THE Winter issue of South of the River – the magazine devoted to Hunslet RLFC and the local amateur and schools scene – is now out on the shelves. In this unique edition it also incorporates a preview to the Harry Jepson Memorial Trophy and is the match day programme for that day.

The magazine, based on Hunslet RLFC and amateur Rugby League in the area, this month charts a memorable spell in which Head Coach Gary Thornton and his players retained their status as Betfred League 1 leaders, in addition to taking Championship side Halifax all the way in the Coral Challenge Cup.

Head Coach Gary Thornton looks ahead with confidence to the rest of the campaign while Chairman Neil Hampshire puts forward his usual forthright and constructive observations on developments in Rugby League as a whole, and on how they affect Hunslet. And there are the usual entertaining contributions by columnists such as Pat Benatmane and Chris Westwood, while Steve Boothroyd provides an in-depth analysis of the schools game.

The great days of Hunslet’s glorious past are also vividly recalled and South of the River is packed with high quality images, in particular by chief photographer Paul Johnson.

The July issue looks ahead to Betfred League 1 home fixtures with Newcastle North Wales and Whitehaven, and looks at the free-scoring exploits of such as Gareth Potts, Ben Heaton and Reece Dean.
