We are 4 weeks into preseason now, and the boys have been working really hard in the gym and on the field as we approach the Christmas break. It’s always important when you refresh the squad as much as we have, that they get a good team spirit and togetherness early on, and the hard work they have been doing has certainly helped in that area. They are starting to bond as a group, and I have seen some encouraging signs of the quality we have in this squad, with competition for places in every position. We have some very experienced players this season and that is going to be vitally important to us in our League 1 campaign.

Our involvement in the Yorkshire cup in early January means we have had to expedite a few things and has added a challenge to planning and timing of our pre-season schedule, to ensure we are competitive in those games. With starting our competitive League 1 campaign over a month later, we have had to change a few things around and do some things earlier than we would expect to. However, I think the boys are really looking forward to getting out on the field now, and the challenge against Batley is one we are really looking forward to. But our long term aim remains to get into the play off positions and give our self a real chance of promotion back into the Championship, where this club belongs, and that is what we will be working hard to achieve.

As we head into the festive period, I’m sure the boys will enjoy their down time, spending quality time with their families and loved ones, and enjoy the Christmas holidays.

I’d like to take this opportunity on behalf of myself and my staff, to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a fantastic New Year, and hopefully 2019 will be a great year for all of us involved with Hunslet RLFC. I’m starting my second full season at the club, and I am thoroughly enjoying being at such a great club, working with some great people, and with some fantastic supporters. I can assure you we will be doing our very best in every game we play to do you proud.

Merry Christmas and a very Happy New year.

Best Wishes,

GT
